| Putting It Together: What others have done
There are some wonderful stories in "Tales from the Electronic Frontier" about
teachers who have incorporated technology into their curriculum and in so doing have
revitalized their classrooms.
Linda Maston, for example, had only one pieced together 286 PC with one megabyte
of RAM and a 2400 modem. The school did not have any money for field trips.
Nevertheless, she came up with a project that eventually stirred the school district to
action. She showed that much can be achieved with very limited technology.
Or read about Karen Nishimoto's students, who risked doing a project to which she,
the teacher, did not have the answers. She had to cope with statements such as,
"What do you mean you don't know? How can you expect us to solve a problem if
you don't know the answer?" However, before the project was over, a Nobel Prize
winner was online with suggestions for the students.
