Uniform Resource Locators(URLS)

Each computer on the Internet has a unique name. In addition, there are several different ways of accessing sites or information. The resulting complexity of getting to resources led to a need for a standard way of listing resources. The standard which was created is called Uniform Resource Locators and is often referred to by it's acronym, URL. Web browsers are thus able to take a URL that you type in, or that is sent to it via a link on a web page and decipher the syntax, connecting you to the site and resource that was requested.
