Finding Mailing Lists

Most good Internet guide books have an index or catalog of network resources. These are often classified by topic and contain the names and addresses of mailing lists related to a specific topic. These days you also see mailing lists referred to in the newspapers, magazines and professional journals.

One of the best ways to look for mailing lists these days is to use one of the mailing list search mechanisms on the World Wide Web or look at one of the "lists of lists." Some of these sites are listed below. If you can't find what you are looking for, try several of these different sites and try different keywords.

Liszt, the Mailing List Directory

Searches over 54,000 listserv, listproc, majordomo and independently managed lists.

TileNet references only listserv list, but does have list of lists alphabetically by subject, name and description.

Publicly Accessible Mailing Lists home page has an index of lists by subject and alphabetical order. It is not a search mechanism.

Directory of Scholarly Electronic Conferences is compiled by Diane Kovacs, a librarian. It gives access to a list of lists categorized by subject.
