Technical Issues

Before beginning to teach an online course, a number of technical issues will need to be resolved.

Decisions on the technical issues should include at least the following issues:

  1. Who will provide technical support for hardware problems? If one of the students in the course is not able to get the modem to work, to whom can that person turn?
  2. Who will provide technical support for software problems? If all the students are geographically close, you may be able to be the support person. If not, can someone local be available?
  3. An issue related to b. above is, can students choose their own software? If you are the technical support person for software, are you in the position to provide help on every web browsing and email software package available? If not, will you limit your students' choice to packages with which you are familiar?
