3. Guide to Free Online Educational Resources

http://diyubook.com  An organized collection of free online training resources, which highlights the boom in commercial Elearning business successes. Something SNG might consider since Lone Eagle has 25 years experience with Elearning, and over ten years specific to online teaching for rural ecommerce and telework strategies.

Lone Eagle’s Free Ecommerce Courses and Resources:

http://lone-eagles.com/guides.htm

For starters, I think short overview videos showing a bit of what's available online are better than presenting text to read. Here is a sample, simple, five minute Jing (video) walk through of my Ecommerce print guides, and online lessons, and resources http://screencast.com/t/Z4xPElMxylbj

Now for the text explanation version -

Around 2002, for Idaho State University on USDA funds I created a 200 page print guide for non-technical rural eco-dev leaders, SMEs, and entrepreneurs. It is very comprehensive with simple explanations backed by the best example resources I could find at the time. This exists as a nicely formatted WORD document that I can email (updated versions) to a printer in Seattle and have a box of books anywhere in the country within five days; with a clients logo on the cover and any state-specific supplemental information.

"Rural Ecommerce and Telework Strategies" http://lone-eagles.com/eguide.htm   I can email you the WORD doc if you'd like to view the formatting and layout. Or I can briefly show you via skype what it looks like - holding it up for the camera?

What we learned was rural eco-dev leaders won't read, and need to see examples, so we continued our innovations amid many onsite workshops on these topics, and in 2003, created a short hands-on online course (ten two hour lessons exploring "what's working for others like you,") intended for rural eco-dev leaders and SME who have never taken an online course. "A Beginner's Guide to Profiting from the Internet" http://lone-eagles.com/ecom.htm   The Essential Ecommerce Skills are in a separate series of lessons so as not to overwhelm intimidated adult learners with too much too fast.   "Essential Ecommerce Skills" http://lone-eagles.com/essential-skills.htm

In 2009, the Alaska Dept of Labor funded KACN-TV and Lone Eagle to create a unique online class for Alaskan Native HS dropouts which shows them how to create an online resume, and media products such as free ecommerce websites, instruction videos, and more, to put on their resumes. This course covers workforce softskills and each lesson is first explained with an audio podcast, followed by a video walk through of each lesson highlighting and explaining what to expect they'll learn and do "hands-on" to complete each lesson. The idea was to use social media and videos to motivate the unmotivated with emphasis on their creating something meaningful in each lesson. This is potentially a Train-the-trainers course as it was intended to have the students teach the lessons to others potentially as a for-profit business once they have been successful transferring measurable skills and attiude changes in their "drop out" peers. "The 21st Century Learn, Earn and Serve Academy"  http://lone-eagles.com/workforce101.htm  This course introduces the use of a blog, a wiki, a youtube channel, Jing video capture free software, free Ecommerce Web site building sites, and more.

View this two minute sample success story, noting you can view all videos at my youtube channel in 20 minutes, and I actually recommend you do so as the Scottish Telework and Web-raising videos are examples we can talk about.

View: Batsbatsbats (Two minutes)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IF0ycSXKdaU

Shane Johnson started using eBay to sell beanie babies and then one baseball bat at a time. Within five years he had create a successful business with a 12,000 square foot warehouse and five different sporting goods web sites. He is based in rural SE Idaho and most of his business is online from out-of-state.

But wait, there's more.

For 14 years, I've taught recertification courses for educators, 1. Making the Best Use of Internet for K12 Instruction, and 2. Designing K12 Online Instruction, for Alaska Pacific University.  Fall 2011, Alaska's BTOP funded scholarships for 80 educators to take two of my brand new broadband-related courses 1. Social Media for Educators, and 2. Teaching Effectively Online.  In addition, I created "21st Century Workforce Readiness" - an online course specifically for  educators to understand how to grow an entrepreneurial culture starting in primary grades so youth grow up with entrepreneurship as a lifeline option.  This is online entrepreneurship specifically. This top level course includes the "dropouts" course as something educators can use and modify as necessary directly with their students.

All these are at http://lone-eagles.com/teachercreated.htm

I am on the FCC C2C curriculum committee and am following online curriculums related to digital literacy, noting the C2C has plans for an Ecommerce portal and another portal for online self-directed learning resources.

I have other self-directed cross-cultural Internet guides for K12 educators and parents such as Common Ground http://lone-eagles.com/guide.htm

The full list of Lone Eagle curriculums, potentially customized and updated for SNG and SNG Clients is at http://lone-eagles.com/guides.htm

Separately, we can look at my grant templates for local community action plans and articles on "community networking." Such as A Good Neighbor's Guide to Community Networking, and more.

Jim Baller has a newsletter readable on mobile devices, the Benton Foundation does a nice job of aggregation of headlines daily by topic, benton.org and here in Montana is a regional headlines aggregrator that archives articles to be searchable by topic. www.matr.net

These two sets of Ecommerce tutorials are the type of site I think you may be looking for. Certainly worth a look and please share your thoughts. It is common for states to create their own similar sites. For example, I clicked on a link at the first site (Ecommerce Assessments) and it took me to an Akansas website.   http://asbdc.ualr.edu/ecommerce/tool.asp
