I'm aware of a boom in social entrepreneurship and recently found a rather wonderful set of success stories at the corporate level at http://www.fastcompany.com/social   (In addition to the case studies, click on the "article" link.) The Grameen Foundation provides $50 microloans to women in the third world and the women are able to pull themselves and their families out of poverty - and repay the loans at the 97% level. Alaskan microloan programs are evolving.

Lone Eagle Background:

I wrote a chapter on my Alaskan Village experiences for an academic community networking conference in Australia and at the end I've listed half a dozen grant templates with implementation specifics for Alaskan Native Villages. http://lone-eagles.com/village-sustainability.htm    Then, a year later I was asked to keynote an Australian Government ICT conference and wrote a paper on Rural Broadband http://lone-eagles.com/wings.htm After a 12 day tour of 10+ communities including several Aboriginal villages in the outback - due to receive broadband, I wrote a trip report for the Govt. Aboriginal programs leader (as this as the purpose of my government-funded extended holiday http://lone-eagles.com/sparks.htm

Since your background includes Elearning, you might be interested in the chapter I was asked to write on my personal history as an early adapter of online learning. This was published in a book of similar "Reflections."  http://lone-eagles.com/history.htm
